From the time I was a young boy, I was involved in sports. It was in my DNA. I played a lot of sports and my family was well known for football, but I had always been drawn into basketball. I could play basketball all day long. I’m slightly introverted so basketball was a getaway, it was a way to communicate, and a way to express myself. I lost my Daddy at age 10 and never truly coped with the loss or properly grieved. I blocked it out as best I could and continued to play basketball to escape my problems. At age 14 my school team was playing in the State Championship game, and we had a fun team with great chemistry, and I was the leader. In the first half of that game.
